What are the Important things to keep in mind during trekking?

  • The most important thing to keep in mind during trekking is your health and fitness. If you suffer from any chronic diseases or ailments then make sure to consult your physician before embarking on your tracking journey. Otherwise it is still a good idea to check up with your physician. People with problems in legs or arthritis should also check in with their doctor once.
  • The second thing that you should keep in mind is to carry a first aid kit along with you. Make sure to include bandaids, bandages, pain killers, antifungal and antibacterial ointment, water purification solution, a small pocket knife, cotton and some disinfectants in this kit.
  • You should also carry some important medicines with yourself in case of emergencies. Some suggested medicines include antacid or digestion medicines, pills for headache, painkillers, gel or balm for knee pain, sterilising solution and wound cleaning agents in case of accidents.
  • You should get a sufficient number of clean clothes to wear and change. If your clothes are unhygienic then they might stink and cause discomfort to your team members. Apart from this, dirty clothes can also result in fungal and bacterial infections. This in turn can give rise to severe itching which will ruin the fun of your journey.
  • Make sure to clean your hands and face with water.
  • Never stray away or loiter around during the trail. You should always stay in packs or groups and not steer away from your trek leader or your groupmates. This can be extremely dangerous as the forests are huge and wide and no networks are available on the mountain tops. Make sure to keep an eye on your group members and trek leader.
  • Always remember that your trek leader is your guardian in the forest trails. Make sure that you are obedient to him or her throughout your journey. Anything that is suggested or imposed by your trek leader should be strictly adhered to as they have a lot of experience with tracking. You must listen to them at all costs and keep close to them during your journey.

In case of any mishap or accident do not panic. Always remember that minor cuts and falls during hiking is a normal part of the journey. You must not freak out or panic during these small incidents. Get back on your feet and start walking again! Enjoy each and every tone of your hiking journey as it will be a memory of a lifetime. Hiking will make you physically and emotionally stronger. It will also make you realise that mountains are mighty and we as humans are nothing in front of them.
