Bilaspur, this city in Chhattisgarh is considered to be the 3rd cleanest city in India and is well renowned for its attractive tourists spots here. The place is not only known for its most aromatic rice named Doobraj rice but also some of the finest silk sarees, beautiful locations and best restaurants to enjoy is present here. The rich ancient records make this place rich in history to know about. Some of the best temples, lakes and other tourists places to visit in Bilaspur are as follows-

  1. Malhar– This town has a great historical significance as it was the capital the 1st millennium. The place is been included in several inscriptions and is especially famous for the sculpture of Vishnu with four-arm figure holding shankha, chakra as well as gada and is one of the oldest one to be known. It dates back to 200 BCE and along with that there are other temples of Devri, Dindeshwari and Pataleshwar and there is also a famous museum here where you will find many ancient things. There is also a Deor temple here which has many artistic idols to see and the place is about 30 kilometres southeast from the main city of Bilaspur.
  2. Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary– Established in 1975. The sanctuary is declared as a Tiger Reserve and is home to many animals including the Bengal tiger, leopard, chital, wild boar and much more. There are many varieties of monkey found here along with other species.
  3. The Devrani and Jethani temples– Located in a village named Tala the temple is famous for having a Rudra Shiva stone statue which is very unique. The temple is half ruined but has a rich history. It is said that 2 queens of Rajprashad constructed it which traces back to 5th or 6th century. The temple of Devrani is made of red sandstone and the stone statue is about 7 feet tall and has several body parts depicted from several animals.
  4.  Mahamaya Temple– This temple is made for the Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswathi which is one of the 52 Shakti Peethas. It is situated 25 kms away from Bilaspur and is around 12–13th century old. Located in a beautiful scenery the temple has ponds nearby it and there are also other temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva here. With the breath-taking architecture, the temple is a beautiful and a very holy place to visit.
  5. Madku dweep– The island shaped like a frog is indeed spectacular in natural beauty and is full of greenery. The island is also famous for the historical temples and prehistoric stone tools, along with other ancient items. The inscriptions here are believed to trace back to the 3rd century BC. As per the Archaeologists the inscriptions are in Brahmi script and in Shankha script. You will also find here several temples of Lord Shiva, and Lord Ganesha, along with idols like Shiv-Parvati, Nandi and of other Gods. Madku Dweep is thus a very famous place among several devotees and many name this place as Kedar Tirth.
